Decay of the Angel

  • once immaculate robes are soiled
  • the flowers in the flowery crown fade and fall
  • sweat pours from the armpits
  • fetid stench envelops the body
  • the Angel is no longer happy in its proper place
  • Pandemonium

Coined in the 17th century poem Paradise Lost by John Milton, Pandemonium has been associated in modern eras with chaos and madness, however the original meaning was the name of the capital of hell: 'pan' meaning all and 'daemonium' being a diminutive form of demon. Read slightly differently, 'Pandemoneios' loosely translates to 'Place of all demons'.
